Lockdown has been a trying time for all of us. A lot of parents have struggled during this period. After all, juggling homeschooling and work has not been easy, has it? Plus, there are a lot of parents who have found themselves out of work because of the pandemic, and there have been physical and mental health worries to contend with too. It has not been easy. However, we’re getting there, and we can see some light at the end of the tunnel. We have also learned a number of lessons along the way too. So, let’s take a look at the lessons that lockdown has taught us.

  1. Our children are more resilient than we think – There is only one place to begin when it comes to the lessons we have learned during the lockdown, and this is with the fact that our children are more resilient than we think they are. A lot of us were extremely worried about how our children would handle all of the new rules that were put in place, especially when it comes to social contact and not seeing loved ones. While it has taken some getting used to, we can all agree that our children have amazed us by how they have taken it in their stride.
  2. Education can take form in many different ways – Another thing that we have certainly realised is that education can take form in a number of different ways. Whether it is getting out in the garden and learning about the environment or using different apps and online games, there are many different ways that kids can learn a subject. Resources like ABCmouse can be beneficial when it comes to this, helping to keep your children occupied while at home while ensuring they still learn at the same time.
  3. Everything is better when you see your children smile – It has been such a trying 12 months. A lot of people have gone through extremely difficult times, with job losses, financial struggles, mental health battles, and much more. However, one thing we can all agree on is that when we see our children smile or laugh, it really does make everything better. Of course, we all knew this, but the lockdown has given us a welcome reminder of this lesson, and it is something that we can all do with acknowledging from time to time. The gift of children is something we can always appreciate.

There is no getting away from the troubling times that we have all experienced. However, when we have tough times in life, it also provides us with an opportunity to learn more about ourselves and our children — and we can take the lessons that we have learned with us going forward.
