I think like a Mom. So when I tackled the issue of “having it all” in my post Work/Life Balance: Time for Solutions!, I wrote from a mom-centric position. What I forgot is that work/life balance isn’t solely a female problem.
Jim Powers, a principal of an all-boys schools, believes that our boys need to understand that risks and tradeoffs of “having it all” too. His commentary, “Boys Need to Know They Can’t Have It All, Either” is an intriguing read.
Powers writes, “We owe it to our boys to prepare them not just for careers, but for fatherhood…” and I agree. I want my boys to know that it’s possible to find career fulfillment and a remain an involved parent. I hope they see that I have found a way to create a career that allows me to
